Eosinophilic gastroenteritis

Eosinophilic gastroenteritis describes the occurrence of gastrointestinal symptoms with eosinophilic infiltration of one or more areas of the digestive tract without systematic involvement. It is mostly manifested in the stomach and small intestine, more rarely in the esophagus and large intestine.

It is believed that the esosinophilic infiltration is triggered by various stimuli, for example by drugs or food allergens and immunological diseases. Consequently, there is a release of cytokines and cell damage.

In the case of the immunological or allergic reaction to food antigens, one assumes with a very high probability of a mast cell-mediated reaction, which is triggered by immunoglobin E.
