Lupus erythematosus tumidus

Lupus erythematosus tumidus is a non-scarring variant of cutaneous lupus erythematosus. It is characterized by indurated, red plaques without a significant epidermal component. Patients suffer from marked photosensitivity.

Light-exposed areas of the skin develop disseminated, chronic stationary, red, sharply defined papules, which are about 0.5 to 5 cm in size. Also show smooth, shiny, non-scaly plaques that heal without scarring.

The skin changes occur mainly in the face, neck, chest and on the arms, especially in young adults.
